The Chairman of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), Dr. Musa Adamu Aliyu, SAN, has taken the Commission’s anti-corruption campaign to schools in Sokoto State, urging pupils and students to embrace integrity, honesty and accountability as the foundation for responsible leadership.
According to an official statement by the ICPC Spokesperson and Head of Media and Public Communications, J. Okor Odey, Dr. Aliyu visited Yahayya Abdulkarim Government Girls’ Day Secondary School and Yahayya Abdulkarim Model Primary School along Dorowa Road, where he engaged the students on the importance of ethical values and character development.
The statement said the sensitisation programme was organised to instil the virtues of honesty, transparency, accountability and ethical conduct in young Nigerians as part of the Commission’s preventive approach to tackling corruption.
Addressing the students, the ICPC Chairman stressed that the fight against corruption should begin with the cultivation of sound moral values from childhood rather than relying solely on investigations and prosecutions.
He said, “Children who today reject falsehood and theft are tomorrow’s responsible leaders who will spurn corruption, embezzlement and all forms of unethical conduct.”
Dr. Aliyu encouraged the students to make honesty a way of life by avoiding deceit, examination malpractice and other forms of dishonesty. He also urged them to be punctual, obey their parents and teachers, and adhere strictly to school rules while serving as ambassadors of integrity in their communities.
The ICPC delegation was received by the management of both schools, including the Principal of Yahayya Abdulkarim Government Girls’ Day Secondary School, Mrs. Murjanatu Muhammad, and the Headmistress of Yahayya Abdulkarim Model Primary School, Malama Luba Musa.
Speaking during the visit, Mrs. Muhammad described the Chairman’s engagement with the students as a privilege for the school and commended the Commission’s efforts in promoting integrity, transparency and accountability across the country.
She said the Chairman’s direct interaction with the students reflected his commitment to raising a generation of morally upright Nigerians and reaffirmed the school’s support for the anti-corruption campaign through the promotion of ethical values among its pupils and students.
The visit concluded with an interactive session and a group photograph involving the ICPC Chairman, school management and members of the Students Anti-Corruption Club, underscoring the Commission’s commitment to strengthening integrity education as part of its broader strategy for preventing corruption in Nigeria.
