The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Abuja Operations Office, has strengthened its collaboration with the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) as part of efforts to enhance disaster preparedness, emergency response and humanitarian coordination in the Federal Capital Territory and across the country.

The renewed commitment was underscored during a courtesy visit by the Head of the NEMA Abuja Operations Office, Pharm. Zakari Abubakar, to the 053 Headquarters, Nigerian Air Force, Abuja, where he was received by the Commander, Air Commodore I. E. Imoke.

Speaking during the visit, Pharm. Abubakar said the engagement was aimed at consolidating the existing partnership between NEMA and the Nigerian Air Force, particularly in the areas of disaster preparedness, emergency response and humanitarian operations.

He described the Nigerian Air Force as a critical partner in supporting civil authorities during emergencies, stressing that sustained collaboration among key response agencies remains essential for timely, coordinated and effective disaster management.

The NEMA official commended the 053 Headquarters, one of the military’s designated Disaster Response Units (DRUs) in the Federal Capital Territory, for its contributions to emergency response operations and humanitarian interventions across the country.

He expressed optimism that deeper cooperation between both organisations would further strengthen Nigeria’s disaster risk management architecture and improve the nation’s capacity to respond to emergencies.

Discussions during the meeting focused on expanding operational cooperation through improved information sharing, joint preparedness initiatives, capacity building and coordinated response mechanisms to enhance emergency management.

Responding, the Commander of the 053 Headquarters, Air Commodore I. E. Imoke, praised NEMA for its commitment to disaster management and humanitarian service delivery nationwide.

He highlighted emergency response coordination, logistics support, disaster preparedness, search and rescue operations and humanitarian assistance as key areas of collaboration between the Nigerian Air Force and NEMA.

Air Commodore Imoke reaffirmed the Nigerian Air Force’s commitment to sustaining its strategic partnership with NEMA to strengthen national disaster management capacity and ensure prompt and effective responses to emergencies.

The visit concluded with the signing of the visitors’ register, exchange of souvenirs and a group photograph, symbolising the enduring partnership between the two organisations.
