Troops of the Joint Task Force North West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have recorded major operational successes after foiling coordinated terrorist attacks, neutralising a notorious terrorist commander and recovering weapons during separate operations in Zamfara and Katsina States.
According to an official signed statement by the Media Information Officer, Joint Task Force (North West) Operation FANSAN YAMMA, Lieutenant Colonel Aliyu Danja, the operations, conducted on Tuesday, 7 July 2026, dealt significant blows to terrorist elements attempting to launch attacks on communities across the North-West.
In Zamfara State, troops of Sector 2 acted on credible intelligence indicating an impending terrorist attack on communities in Kaura Namoda Local Government Area. Working in collaboration with local security volunteers, the troops engaged the terrorists in a fierce firefight, successfully repelling the attack and forcing the assailants to flee with several casualties.
In a related operation around Dogon Kade, troops responding to an attack on farmers neutralised notorious terrorist commander Alhaji Tukur, the younger brother of terrorist kingpin Alhaji Shehu Bagiwaye. Several other terrorists reportedly sustained gunshot wounds and escaped into surrounding bushes.
The statement added that troops also responded swiftly to reports of terrorist activities in Sabon Gari, also in Kaura Namoda Local Government Area. On sighting the advancing troops, the terrorists abandoned their mission and fled. During the subsequent exploitation of the area, one terrorist was neutralised, while a motorcycle used by the fleeing criminals was recovered.
In neighbouring Katsina State, troops of Sector 2 on fighting patrol engaged terrorists along the Danmusa–Yantumaki axis in Danmusa Local Government Area. The troops overwhelmed the criminals, forcing them to flee and abandon their position.
A follow-up exploitation operation led to the recovery of two AK-47 rifles, two magazines loaded with 25 rounds of ammunition and one motorcycle.
In a major air operation, the Air Component of Operation FANSAN YAMMA intercepted a large convoy of about 300 terrorists on motorcycles moving from the Sunke–Kumbo axis towards the Bayazaki riverine area en route to Gummi, where they were reportedly planning coordinated attacks on innocent civilians.
Acting on credible intelligence, three Nigerian Air Force platforms were deployed to intercept the convoy. On sighting the aircraft, the terrorists attempted to take cover under trees but were engaged with precision airstrikes that neutralised large numbers of the criminals and disrupted their planned attack.
The Joint Task Force commended the Nigerian Air Force for the timely air interdiction, describing it as another demonstration of the effective air-land synergy that continues to degrade terrorist capabilities across the theatre.
Operation FANSAN YAMMA reaffirmed its commitment to sustaining aggressive offensive operations against terrorists and other criminal elements across the North-West, assuring residents that troops would continue to deny terrorists freedom of movement while protecting lives, livelihoods and critical communities throughout the region.
