The Committee on Works, Transport and Aviation of the Federal Character Commission (FCC) has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening compliance with the Federal Character Principle following a strategic engagement with the management of the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA).

Chairman of the Committee, Honourable Peter Eze, disclosed that the committee held a productive interactive session with the NPA management led by its Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Abubakar Dantsoho, as part of efforts to deepen collaboration on equitable representation in the public service.

Honourable Eze said he was encouraged by the NPA’s commitment to embracing the Commission’s renewed compliance framework and working closely with the FCC to promote fairness, equity and inclusiveness across government institutions.

He noted that the NPA management commended the ongoing reforms being implemented at the Federal Character Commission under the leadership of the Executive Chairman, Honourable Ayo Omidiran, while also acknowledging the support of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in advancing institutional reforms across the public sector.

According to him, the Commission made it clear during the engagement that the era of non-compliance with the Federal Character Principle has come to an end.

He explained that the FCC has introduced new operational guidelines, enhanced monitoring mechanisms and tougher sanctions to ensure that all Ministries, Departments and Agencies comply with the constitutional provisions on equitable representation.

Honourable Eze stressed that the Commission’s objective extends beyond enforcement, emphasizing that it seeks to build strong partnerships with institutions such as the Nigerian Ports Authority to promote transparency, accountability and national unity.

He expressed confidence that sustained collaboration between the FCC and the NPA would strengthen public institutions and deepen citizens’ confidence in governance through the effective implementation of the Federal Character Principle.
