The Rivers State Police Command has commenced a comprehensive investigation into allegations of extortion involving some of its personnel following the circulation of a video and reports on social media.

According to an official signed statement by the Police Public Relations Officer, Rivers State Police Command, ASP Agabe Kaborlo, the allegations involve ASP Omomefe Akin Geoffrey and other police officers who were accused of extorting money from members of the public while carrying out their official duties.

The statement noted that the Command views the allegations with utmost seriousness, stressing that such conduct is inconsistent with the core values, ethics and professional standards of the Nigeria Police Force.

Consequently, the Commissioner of Police, Rivers State Command, CP Olugbenga A. Adepoju, ordered the arrest, detention and immediate investigation of the officers implicated in the allegations.

The Commissioner reiterated that extortion, illegal collection of money and any form of unprofessional conduct by police personnel would not be tolerated under any circumstances. He emphasized that the Command remains committed to ensuring that officers conduct themselves in a manner that promotes public trust, accountability and respect for human rights.

CP Adepoju assured members of the public that the investigation would be thorough, transparent and impartial, adding that any officer found culpable would face appropriate disciplinary action in accordance with the provisions of the law and the Nigeria Police Act.

The Rivers State Police Command commended members of the public for bringing such incidents to its attention and encouraged citizens to continue reporting cases of misconduct, corruption and abuse of office through the established complaint channels.

The Command further reaffirmed its commitment to professional policing, discipline, integrity and quality service delivery to all residents of Rivers State.

Residents were advised to report complaints and misconduct through the Command’s Complaint Response Unit (CRU) on 07057605209, 07057605256, 08120822987 and 07072323049. For emergencies and other security-related matters, members of the public can contact the Police Control Room on 08032003514.

The statement emphasized that public cooperation remains vital to the Command’s efforts to strengthen accountability, improve service delivery and maintain law and order across the state.
