Troops of the Forward Operating Base (FOB) Mandaragirau under 25 Brigade, Sector 2 of Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK), have successfully repelled a terrorist attack on their location, inflicting casualties on the insurgents despite adverse weather conditions and poor visibility caused by heavy rainfall.

According to an official signed statement by the Acting Media Information Officer, Headquarters Joint Task Force (North East) Operation HADIN KAI, Lieutenant Colonel Haruna M. Sani, the terrorists launched the attack at about 3:00 a.m., attempting to breach sections of the FOB under the cover of extreme weather conditions.

The statement disclosed that troops mounted a fierce counter-offensive, decisively thwarting the attack and preventing further incursions into the base. The successful defence of the FOB, it noted, highlights the resilience, courage, and determination of troops operating across the North-East theatre.

However, the military confirmed that five soldiers paid the supreme price during the intense firefight and close-quarter battle that ensued. Some military equipment was also affected during the engagement.

The statement described the fallen soldiers’ sacrifice as a reflection of the highest traditions of service, bravery, and unwavering commitment to the defence of the nation. It added that three members of the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF) also lost their lives while supporting troops during the encounter.

Troops who sustained injuries during the attack were promptly airlifted by the Air Component Command and are currently receiving medical treatment. Military authorities confirmed that the wounded personnel are in stable condition.

Operation HADIN KAI stated that troops remain firmly in control of FOB Mandaragirau and continue to dominate the surrounding area, while exploitation and clearance operations are ongoing to consolidate gains and prevent further enemy activities.

The military noted that the failed assault underscores the growing desperation of terrorist elements who continue to suffer significant setbacks under sustained military pressure across the North-East.

It further assured residents that additional troops and critical combat enablers have been deployed across the theatre to strengthen security, protect communities, and maintain relentless pressure on terrorist groups operating in the region.
