BALANCING LETHALITY WITH RESPONSIBILITY: AIR COMPONENT HADIN KAI COMPLETES IHL TRAINING
Share on FacebookShare on TwitterShare on Whatsapp

In line with the Nigerian Air Force’s commitment to conducting operations with professionalism and respect for humanitarian principles, the Air Component of Operation HADIN KAI, in partnership with the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), has concluded a three-day International Humanitarian Law (IHL) training for its personnel in Maiduguri. The training, held from 2 to 4 June 2026, provided officers, airmen and airwomen with practical instruction on International Humanitarian Law, Rules of Engagement and Civilian Harm Mitigation measures.

The programme was designed to enhance personnel’s capacity to effectively execute assigned missions while safeguarding civilian lives and property. This initiative reflects the vision of the Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Sunday Kelvin Aneke, whose leadership continues to emphasise operational effectiveness, accountability, purposeful lethality and civilian harm mitigation as essential pillars of Nigerian Air Force operations.

Speaking at the closing ceremony, the Air Component Commander, Air Commodore MB Ahmed, commended the ICRC team led by Mrs Diana Djaparidze for their support and expertise. He noted that the training would further strengthen personnel professionalism and compliance with humanitarian laws during ongoing counter-terrorism and counter-insurgency operations. As Operation HADIN KAI continues to degrade terrorist capabilities in the North-East, the Nigerian Air Force remains steadfast in ensuring that operational success is achieved within the framework of national and international legal standards, demonstrating that military effectiveness and humanitarian responsibility are mutually reinforcing.
