The Military Pensions Board (MPB) has alerted military pensioners, retirees, and Next-of-Kin (NOKs) to the activities of fraudsters posing as facilitators of loans, pension benefits, and other financial services in a bid to obtain sensitive personal information.
According to an official signed statement by the Public Relations Officer of the Military Pensions Board, Squadron Leader Aliyu Mohammed, the Board has received reports of unscrupulous individuals contacting pensioners and requesting confidential details under various pretexts.
The statement disclosed that some of the suspected fraudsters have been demanding information such as Bank Verification Numbers (BVN), National Identification Numbers (NIN), bank account details, ATM card information, and other personal data from unsuspecting pensioners.
The Board strongly advised pensioners and their Next-of-Kin not to disclose any sensitive information to individuals, groups, or platforms that are not officially authorised by the Military Pensions Board.
It emphasized that the Board does not engage third parties to collect personal or banking information for the processing of loans, pension payments, gratuities, or any other retirement benefits.
The MPB cautioned that any request for such information from unofficial sources should be treated as suspicious and promptly reported to the appropriate authorities.
The Board further urged pensioners and NOKs to conduct all matters relating to their pensions and benefits exclusively through recognised MPB channels and designated contact lines.
Reaffirming its commitment to the welfare of military retirees, the Military Pensions Board stated that it would continue to collaborate with relevant agencies to protect pensioners from fraudulent activities and ensure the security of their personal information and benefits.
