By Nkechi Eze

The Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Sunday Kelvin Aneke, has charged commanders of the Nigerian Air Force to intensify operational pressure on insurgents and other criminal elements across the country, stressing that every air mission must produce measurable and decisive outcomes.

During an operational briefing held on 18 May 2026 with Branch Chiefs, Air Officers Commanding, Directors, and Air Component Commanders from various operational theatres nationwide, the CAS emphasized the need for continuous evaluation and reassessment of operational strategies in line with emerging security realities.

Air Marshal Aneke noted that the evolving nature of contemporary security threats demands adaptive tactics, enhanced coordination, and unwavering commitment from commanders at all levels. He urged operational leaders to remain proactive, mission-focused, and resolute in sustaining ongoing offensives against terrorists, bandits, and other criminal networks threatening national security.

The Chief of the Air Staff further stressed that operational success must not only be measured by the intensity of strikes carried out, but by the strategic impact achieved in degrading hostile capabilities and restoring peace to affected communities. He underscored the importance of precision, professionalism, and strict adherence to rules of engagement in all operations, particularly in safeguarding civilian lives and critical infrastructure.

According to him, commanders must ensure that every sortie and mission contributes meaningfully to the overall operational objectives of the Armed Forces, while maintaining the highest standards of accountability and operational efficiency.

Air Marshal Aneke also reaffirmed the Nigerian Air Force’s commitment to joint operations and inter-agency collaboration in tackling the country’s security challenges, assuring that the Service would continue to deploy its air power capabilities decisively in support of national peace and stability efforts.
