President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, has approved the appointment of retired Major General Adeyinka A. Famadewa as Special Adviser on Homeland Security, in a move aimed at strengthening Nigeria’s internal security coordination and intelligence-driven operations.

According to an official signed statement by the Head, Information and Public Relations, Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (OSGF), Chris Ugwuegbulam, the appointment was conveyed in a circular signed by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume, CON, and issued by the Permanent Secretary, General Services Office, Dr. Ibrahim Abubakar Kana, mni.

The statement noted that the appointment reflects the commitment of President Tinubu’s administration to enhancing inter-agency collaboration, improving intelligence integration, and addressing emerging security threats across the country through a more coordinated homeland security framework.

Major General Famadewa (Rtd), described as a highly decorated retired senior military officer, brings over three decades of experience in military operations, intelligence coordination, counter-terrorism strategy, and international security diplomacy.

During his tenure as Principal General Staff Officer to the National Security Adviser at the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA) between 2015 and 2021, he was said to have played a central role in shaping Nigeria’s intelligence coordination architecture.

The statement disclosed that he spearheaded the establishment of the Intelligence Fusion Centre (IFC) at ONSA, an integrated multi-agency intelligence platform designed to improve national threat assessment and strategic response coordination. The platform brought together key security and intelligence institutions including the Defence Intelligence Agency (DIA), National Intelligence Agency (NIA), Department of State Services (DSS), the Nigeria Police Force, and the Armed Forces of Nigeria.

Following his retirement from active military service, Major General Famadewa served as Senior Research Fellow at the Nigerian Army Resource Centre, Abuja, where he continued contributing to national security discourse and institutional reforms.

He also authored the monograph titled “Policing and National Security in Nigeria,” which provided practical recommendations for enhancing civil-security cooperation and strengthening national security mechanisms.

President Tinubu expressed confidence that the retired senior officer would leverage his extensive experience, professionalism, and strategic expertise to support the administration’s efforts toward achieving a safer and more secure Nigeria.

The President further urged Major General Famadewa (Rtd) to advance intelligence integration, improve homeland security coordination, and contribute meaningfully to the realization of the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
