The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has secured the conviction of a traffic offender involved in the abduction and assault of an FRSC operative during a routine enforcement patrol along the Kubwa Expressway in Abuja.
According to an official signed statement by the Corps Public Education Officer, DCC Osondu Ohaeri, the incident occurred on 30 April 2026 at about 0900 hours during a special patrol conducted by personnel of RS 7.19 Dutse Alhaji Unit Command at Gegu Filling Station.
The patrol team had flagged down a Toyota Hilux vehicle with registration number YAB 931 AE for traffic enforcement. However, the driver allegedly failed to comply with lawful instructions and instead engaged in violent conduct, resulting in the assault and unlawful abduction of an FRSC Marshal who was carrying out official duties.
The situation was swiftly brought under control through the intervention of the patrol team and Police officers attached to the operation. The suspect was arrested and handed over to the FCDA Police Station, Kubwa, while the vehicle involved was impounded for further investigation.
Following prosecution, the offender was arraigned before a competent court and subsequently convicted. The court imposed a fine of ₦72,000 or an option of three months’ imprisonment. In addition, ₦50,000 was awarded as compensation to the assaulted FRSC personnel.
Reacting to the development, the Corps Marshal, Shehu Mohammed, commended the professionalism, courage, and restraint exhibited by the patrol team despite the provocation. He warned that any form of assault or obstruction of FRSC personnel constitutes a serious attack on public safety and the rule of law.
He reiterated the Corps’ commitment to enforcing traffic regulations with firmness, civility, and respect for human rights, while cautioning motorists against violence, intimidation, or interference with officers performing lawful duties.
The Corps Marshal also urged members of the public to cooperate with law enforcement agencies, stressing that compliance with traffic rules is essential to ensuring safer roads and protecting lives nationwide.
The FRSC reaffirmed its resolve to continue working with security agencies and the judiciary to ensure that offenders of traffic laws and attackers of public officers are promptly brought to justice.
