The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Disu on Thursday, 30th April 2026, paid a solemn condolence visit to the family of the late Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Ejeh Alfred at their residence in Abuja, in a deeply emotional demonstration of institutional solidarity and respect for officers who fall in the line of duty.
ASP Ejeh Alfred, who served as a dedicated driver with the Nigeria Police Airwing, lost his life on 17th April 2026 during an operational mission, a development that has continued to draw tributes within and outside the Nigeria Police Force for his professionalism, commitment, and sacrifice to national service.
During the visit, the IGP expressed profound sympathy to the widow of the deceased officer, Mrs. Mercy Ejeh, their children, and members of the extended family, describing the late ASP as a disciplined and dependable officer whose service reflected the core values of the Force. He noted that the officer’s sacrifice in the line of duty would remain indelibly etched in the institutional memory of the Nigeria Police Force.
IGP Disu further reassured the bereaved family of the unwavering support of the Force, stressing that the welfare of families of officers who pay the ultimate price in service to the nation remains a central priority under his leadership. He emphasized that no family of a fallen officer would be abandoned, adding that systems are in place to ensure continuous support and care for those left behind.
He also reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to the welfare, morale, and operational safety of personnel across all formations of the Nigeria Police Force, noting that the courage, dedication, and sacrifices of officers on active duty remain the foundation upon which national security is built.
The Police Chief offered prayers for the peaceful repose of the soul of the late ASP Ejeh Alfred and encouraged the family to find solace in the honourable legacy of service left behind by their loved one. He pledged that the Force would continue to stand firmly with the family in this period of grief and beyond, ensuring that the memory and contributions of the late officer are duly honoured.
The visit, marked by moments of reflection and sympathy, underscores the Nigeria Police Force’s continued commitment to strengthening institutional welfare systems for officers and their families, particularly those who fall in active service to the nation.
