The Lagos State Government on Saturday hosted a grand state banquet in honour of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, in recognition of his appointment as the 23rd Indigenous and 33rd Inspector-General of Police of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
According to an official signed statement by the Force Public Relations Officer, DCP Anthony Placid, the event, held at the Lagos State House, Marina, brought together top government functionaries, security stakeholders, and members of the public to celebrate a policing career defined by discipline, service, and operational excellence.
The ceremony was hosted by the Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, who described the IGP as a proud product of Lagos, shaped by its institutions and communities, and distinguished by an unwavering commitment to service. He noted that the honour was not only in recognition of his elevation to the highest office in the Nigeria Police Force but also a reflection of his impactful tenure as Commander of the Rapid Response Squad in Lagos, where he demonstrated exceptional leadership and professionalism.
In his remarks, IGP Olatunji Disu, expressed gratitude to the Government and people of Lagos State for the warm reception, describing the occasion as a personal homecoming. He reflected on his years of service in Lagos and reaffirmed his resolve to strengthen professionalism, restore public trust, and enhance community partnership in policing across the country.
The Inspector-General pledged to deepen collaboration between the Nigeria Police Force, the Lagos State Government, and critical stakeholders, including the Lagos State Security Trust Fund, towards sustaining safety and stability. He emphasized that effective policing requires collective responsibility and urged Nigerians to support law enforcement efforts in ensuring national security.
The event highlighted the strong institutional relationship between Lagos State and the Inspector-General of Police, underscoring a shared commitment to responsive policing, effective leadership, and national development.
