The Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume, has assured Nigerians that the country’s security situation is steadily improving, stating that the insurgent group, Boko Haram, has been significantly degraded and reduced to a weakened force.
According to an official signed statement by the Special Adviser, Media and Publicity to the SGF, Yomi Odunuga, Akume gave the assurance while receiving members of the Renewed Hope Fulbe Campaign Organization at his office in Abuja.
The SGF attributed the improved security landscape to sustained military operations and complementary non-kinetic strategies, noting that attacks by terrorist elements have become sporadic and less effective.
He added that while progress has been made, the Federal Government is intensifying efforts to strengthen the nation’s defence architecture through the acquisition of additional arms and ammunition, as well as improved operational strategies by security agencies.
“The problems we are having are temporary problems that will certainly go away. Things are already beginning to pick up,” Akume said, expressing optimism that the country will overcome its current security challenges.
During the visit, the Renewed Hope Fulbe Campaign Organization pledged full support for the re-election of Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Kashim Shettima in the 2027 general election.
The group, led by its National Coordinator, Abdullahi Ahmad Tibbo, said it would mobilise Fulani pastoralist communities across the country to deliver substantial votes for the administration.
Tibbo noted that several policies of the current administration have directly benefited Fulbe communities, including the student loan scheme, infrastructure development initiatives, local government autonomy reforms, economic stabilisation efforts, and the creation of the Federal Ministry of Livestock Development.
He described the organisation as a grassroots-driven platform committed to integrating Fulbe communities into Nigeria’s democratic and developmental processes, adding that it has established structures in over 20 states to enhance civic participation and voter mobilisation.
In his remarks, Akume commended the group for its commitment to national unity and inclusiveness, urging members to intensify grassroots sensitisation efforts, particularly in encouraging citizens to obtain their Permanent Voter Cards.
He also highlighted key government initiatives aimed at improving livelihoods, especially in the livestock sector, assuring the delegation that their requests for recognition as a strategic mobilisation partner and logistical support would be considered.
The delegation had earlier appealed for inclusion in policy dialogue platforms, particularly in livestock development programmes, and requested support such as vehicles and motorcycles to aid its outreach in remote pastoral communities.
Akume reaffirmed the government’s commitment to continued engagement, noting that all submissions made by the group would receive due consideration.
