The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, on Wednesday received the leadership of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON) during a courtesy visit at the Force Headquarters in Abuja, in a meeting aimed at deepening collaboration between the police and local government authorities across the country.
The visit was led by ALGON’s National President, Bello Lawal, who was accompanied by a high-level delegation of senior executives of the association.
In a statement issued by the Force Public Relations Officer, Anthony Placid, the delegation included former ALGON National President Alabi Kolade; Chairman of ALGON’s Board of Trustees Odunayo Ategbero; Financial and Lead Consultant Uzamere Igbeke; Board of Trustees member representing the South-East Okafor Odinaka Cyril; Chief of Staff to ALGON Shehu Marshal; Acting Director General Evan Enekwe; Consultant on Health Ben Nkechika; Special Adviser on Legislative Matters Donald Ayibiowu; and Head of Media Obiora Orji.
During the meeting, ALGON National President Lawal reaffirmed the association’s commitment to supporting the operations of the Nigeria Police Force, particularly at the grassroots level where local government institutions play a critical role in governance and community development.
He congratulated the Inspector-General on his appointment and commended his leadership of the Force, noting that ALGON remains ready to partner with the police in strengthening security across Nigeria’s local government areas.
Lawal also highlighted the association’s ongoing collaboration with both federal and state governments in driving national development policies, while appealing for the continued support of the Nigeria Police Force in advancing ALGON’s initiatives across the country.
Responding, IGP Disu expressed appreciation to the ALGON leadership for the visit and acknowledged the association’s longstanding support for policing efforts.
He noted that police officers across the country often work under demanding conditions and with limited resources, while continuing to discharge their responsibilities in safeguarding lives and property.
The Inspector-General commended ALGON for its role in supporting policing initiatives and strengthening security efforts at the community level, stressing that collaboration between local government authorities and the police remains essential for effective law enforcement.
Disu also used the opportunity to appeal to members of the public to respect police officers while they carry out their duties, emphasizing that mutual respect between citizens and law enforcement personnel is vital for maintaining public order.
At the same time, he urged officers of the Force to remain professional and civil in their interactions with members of the public, noting that public trust is a critical pillar of effective policing.
The Inspector-General further reaffirmed his commitment to strengthening the operational capacity of the Nigeria Police Force by ensuring that officers are better equipped and supported to serve the nation efficiently.
