The Executive Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ola Olukoyede, has hailed the introduction of the online asset declaration platform by the Code of Conduct Bureau (CCB) as a timely and transformative measure in the fight against corruption in Nigeria.
In an official signed statement released by the EFCC’s spokesperson, Dele Oyewale, Olukoyede delivered a goodwill message during the opening of a national workshop themed, “Strengthening Compliance with the Code of Conduct for Public Officers in Nigeria and the Deployment of the Online Assets and Liabilities Declaration Systems (OALDS),” organized in collaboration with the European Union, the Federal Ministry of Justice, and International IDEA.
Speaking through the EFCC’s Director, Public Affairs Department, CE Wilson Uwujaren, Olukoyede described the digital asset declaration system as a revolutionary step that promises to enhance transparency, promote accountability, and foster public trust in governance.
“The introduction of online asset declaration signals a huge step forward in the fight against corruption, offering Nigeria the opportunity to ensure real-time monitoring and eliminate human interference in asset reporting,” Olukoyede said. He noted that the platform’s digital footprint capabilities will strengthen law enforcement verification processes and help entrench integrity across all tiers of government.
He also commended the CCB and its partners for bringing together heads of service from sub-national governments for the engagement, urging them to lead by example in implementing the system. “Your personal commitment to this initiative will make all the difference,” he said. “Public officers across all levels of government must embrace this online system as part of broader efforts to build trust and enhance integrity in governance.”
Olukoyede assured the CCB of EFCC’s full support in enforcing the laws on asset declaration and expressed optimism that the new system would encourage greater compliance among public officers nationwide.
The online declaration platform, designed to replace the manual system, is expected to streamline processes, eliminate bottlenecks, and provide law enforcement agencies with reliable digital records for improved oversight and accountability.
