Nigeria and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia have reaffirmed their commitment to deepening bilateral cooperation in critical areas of security, technology, and emergency response as both countries seek to strengthen institutional collaboration and enhance internal security frameworks.
This assurance was given when Nigeria’s Minister of Interior hosted the Ambassador of Saudi Arabia to Nigeria, Yousef bin Mohammed Al-Balawi, and his delegation during a high-level engagement aimed at expanding strategic partnerships between the two nations.
In a statement issued by the Head of Press and Public Relations at the Ministry of Interior, Mary Ali, the Minister reaffirmed Nigeria’s commitment to strengthening the longstanding relationship between both countries, noting that the partnership built on mutual respect and shared interests has endured for nearly five decades.
He described the presence of several Consuls General in the ambassador’s delegation as a strong indication of the value both countries place on their bilateral ties, expressing optimism that the relationship would continue to grow and deliver greater value to both nations.
The Minister highlighted several priority areas of collaboration, including border security, management of irregular migration, and the strengthening of national crisis response mechanisms. He particularly acknowledged the advanced technological systems deployed by Saudi Arabia along its borders and expressed Nigeria’s interest in learning from those innovations through structured knowledge exchange programmes and official delegation visits.
According to him, Nigeria is currently prioritising the development of a National Internal Emergency Response System to improve coordination and rapid response to crises. He noted that the country could greatly benefit from Saudi Arabia’s expertise in innovation, public safety management, and integrated emergency response frameworks to further strengthen Nigeria’s internal security architecture.
Responding, Ambassador Yousef bin Mohammed Al-Balawi reiterated his country’s commitment to expanding cooperation with Nigeria across key sectors. He highlighted Saudi Arabia’s experience in areas such as traffic management, civil defence operations, correctional services, and large-scale crowd control—particularly during major religious gatherings such as Hajj and Ramadan.
The ambassador also pointed to significant advancements in digital security and citizen engagement platforms in Saudi Arabia, explaining that such systems enable citizens to report security concerns in real time while allowing authorities to respond swiftly to public safety issues.
Both parties expressed readiness to explore practical avenues of cooperation, strengthen institutional capacity, and sustain dialogue that will further promote security, stability, and shared prosperity between Nigeria and Saudi Arabia.
