The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, has visited victims of the recent improvised explosive device (IED) explosions receiving treatment at the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital, as part of efforts to assess the situation and reinforce security response in Borno State.
During the visit to Maiduguri, the IGP also proceeded to the scene of the Monday Market bombing for an on-the-spot assessment of the incident, which has raised fresh security concerns in the region.
As part of his engagements, Disu paid visits to the Borno State Government House and the State Police Command Headquarters, where he held discussions aimed at reviewing existing security arrangements and strengthening coordinated response strategies among security agencies.
He commiserated with victims of the attacks and families of those affected, expressing the Nigeria Police Force’s solidarity during the difficult period. The police chief reassured residents of the Force’s determination to dismantle all criminal networks responsible for the attacks and prevent any recurrence.
Disu further emphasised that security has been significantly reinforced across Maiduguri and surrounding areas, with increased deployments, enhanced surveillance, and intensified joint operational measures already in place to forestall further threats and ensure the safety of residents.
