Troops of the Nigerian Army under 13 Brigade, operating within the command of the 82 Division Nigerian Army, have arrested two suspected arms couriers and recovered 192 rounds of ammunition during ongoing security operations in Obubra Local Government Area.

The operation forms part of sustained military efforts to consolidate recent gains recorded against armed criminal elements operating around Odonget Community in the area.

According to a statement issued by the Assistant Director Army Public Relations, Headquarters 13 Brigade, Major Yemi Sokoya, the development follows earlier successes recorded by troops, including the neutralisation of five armed criminals and the discovery and destruction of an illegal gun manufacturing facility in the Odonget general area.

The statement explained that the suspects were intercepted during a stop-and-search operation conducted by troops at the Obubra checkpoint at about 12:58 p.m. on March 13, 2026.

The suspects, identified as Sunday Ayam and Afriday Augustus, were found in possession of 192 rounds of Norinco and .223 Remington ammunition, which are commonly used with AK-pattern rifles.

Preliminary findings suggest that the suspects and the recovered ammunition may be connected to the recent hostilities recorded in the Odonget area.

The suspects are currently in military custody, while investigations are ongoing to determine the source of the ammunition, its intended destination and the possible involvement of the suspects in the recent security disturbances.

The Commander of 13 Brigade, Patrick Alimikhena, commended the vigilance and professionalism displayed by the troops during the operation, noting that the arrest highlights the effectiveness of the ongoing crackdown on criminal networks in the area.

Brigadier General Alimikhena reassured residents that troops will continue to sustain aggressive security operations, including checkpoints and patrols, across the Brigade’s area of responsibility to curb the movement of illegal arms and ensure lasting peace and security.

He also urged members of the public to remain law-abiding and continue supporting security agencies with timely and credible information that could assist ongoing efforts to apprehend criminal elements and maintain peace in the area.
