The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has debunked a viral social media video claiming that it arrested and is prosecuting Justice James Omotosho of the Federal High Court in Abuja, describing the allegation as false and malicious.

In a statement issued by the Commission’s spokesperson, J. Okor Odey, the anti-graft agency categorically denied the claims contained in the video, stating that the information was fabricated to mislead the public and create unnecessary controversy.

According to the Commission, it has neither arrested nor invited Justice Omotosho in connection with any investigation.

The ICPC further clarified that it is not investigating the Federal High Court judge, contrary to the claims circulating online.

“The Commission states categorically that the claim contained in the video is entirely untrue and intended to spread mischief and mislead members of the public,” the statement said.

The anti-corruption agency also stressed that it does not have the mandate to investigate serving judicial officers, reiterating its respect for members of the judiciary.

It noted that the Commission holds Justice Omotosho and other judicial officers in high regard and remains committed to maintaining professionalism and due process in the discharge of its statutory responsibilities.

The ICPC therefore urged members of the public to disregard the misleading video and refrain from spreading unverified information capable of causing public concern or damaging reputations.

The Commission also encouraged Nigerians to rely only on official communication from the agency for accurate information about its activities.

It further advised social media users to verify the authenticity of information before sharing it in order to prevent the spread of misinformation.
