The Nigeria Police Force in Nasarawa State has arrested two suspects over the vandalisation of electric cables and poles along the Gitata–Gunduma Road, recovering several tools and exhibits allegedly used in the criminal activity.
The suspects were apprehended in the early hours of Thursday during a routine patrol by officers attached to the Gitata Division. The operation, which took place at about 5:40 a.m., led to the arrest of two men identified as Chigozie Igbokwe, 41, and Emmanuel John, 45, both residents of Jikwoyi in the Abuja.
According to an official statement signed by the Police Public Relations Officer of the Nasarawa State Command, SP Ramhan Nansel, the suspects were intercepted while allegedly engaging in the vandalisation of electricity infrastructure along the road corridor linking Gitata and Gunduma.
Items recovered from the suspects include iron cutters, pliers, spanners and vandalised electric cables. The patrol team also impounded a grey Hyundai Sonata with registration number GWA 44 PM, which the suspects allegedly used to convey the vandalised materials.
The statement noted that the suspects were immediately taken into custody while the exhibits were secured as part of the ongoing investigation.
Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police in Nasarawa State, CP Shetima Jauro Mohammed, has ordered the transfer of the case to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Lafia for discreet investigation and diligent prosecution.
The police command reiterated its commitment to protecting public infrastructure and urged residents to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious activities around critical national assets to security agencies.
