One person has died while four others sustained injuries in two separate road accidents that occurred on Thursday in Abuja.
The first incident occurred near the office of the FCT Emergency Management Department (FEMD) in Asokoro, when a Toyota Corolla LE reportedly lost control and rammed into pedestrians.
In an official signed statement, the Head of Public Affairs of FEMD, Nkechi Isa, disclosed that the accident was reported to the agency at about 10:45 a.m.
According to the Head of the FEMD Search and Rescue Team, Monday Adie, the incident occurred after the driver of the vehicle lost control due to brake failure.
The Toyota Corolla reportedly veered off the road and knocked down three pedestrians before eventually coming to a halt after colliding with a police patrol van.
Two of the victims who survived the accident were identified as Nicholas Daduwo, a staff member of the High Court in the Central Area, and Ernest Nwah, a resident of Akpakio Asaka Street in Asokoro. Both victims sustained injuries and were rushed to Asokoro General Hospital for treatment.
The third pedestrian, an unidentified male, lost his life in the incident, and his body has been deposited at the morgue of the hospital.
In a separate development, another road accident along the Kubwa Expressway left two persons injured.
The accident occurred when a vehicle reportedly moving at high speed rammed into a Volkswagen Golf from behind, forcing the car into a roadside gutter.
Emergency responders evacuated the two injured victims to a nearby hospital for medical attention.
Authorities have advised motorists to observe speed limits and ensure their vehicles are in good mechanical condition to prevent avoidable accidents.
