By Nkechi Eze

The National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) has announced that its ongoing ward-level enrolment drive for the National Identification Number (NIN), which commenced on Monday, February 16, 2026, is progressing steadily across the federation.

In a statement signed by the Head of Corporate Communications, Kayode Adegoke, the Commission reiterated that the NIN remains a foundational requirement for accessing critical government services in Nigeria, urging citizens and legal residents who are yet to enrol to take advantage of the decentralised exercise.

According to NIMC, the ward-level enrolment initiative is designed to bring registration services closer to the grassroots and ensure inclusive identity coverage nationwide. The Commission called on all eligible individuals to present themselves at designated ward enrolment centres in their respective locations.

To ensure seamless operations, NIMC advised members of the public to check its official website, www.nimc.gov.ng, to locate the nearest designated enrolment point within their wards, cooperate fully with enrolment officials, and provide accurate information during registration.

The Commission also encouraged Nigerians to rely solely on its verified communication channels for updates and information. These include its official website and social media platforms: X (formerly Twitter) @nimc_ng, Instagram @nimc_ng, Facebook: National Identity Management Commission, and LinkedIn: National Identity Management Commission.

For further enquiries, the Commission provided its contact portal at www.nimc.gov.ng and helpline number 0800 061 6462.

NIMC disclosed that applicants seeking pre-enrolment services can access the portal at penrol.nimc.gov.ng, while those requiring data modification should visit selfservicemodification.nimc.gov.ng.

The Commission further advised Nigerians to download the NIN Authentication (NINAUTH) application available on both iOS and Google Play Store platforms to enhance digital identity verification.

Reaffirming its mandate, NIMC stated that it remains committed to providing assured identity for all citizens and residents, calling on Nigerians to come out en masse to register and obtain their National Identification Number.
