By Nkechi Eze

The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has reinforced its commitment to operational excellence and safety by strengthening its munitions management capacity through a strategic international training engagement in Türkiye.

Three NAF officers participated in the Munitions Management and Safety Course held from 23–27 February 2026 at the Turkish Partnership for Peace Training Centre in Ankara. The programme brought together 25 participants from 14 countries, underscoring the collaborative and multinational nature of modern military training.

The course provided an intensive platform for professional military education, exposing participants to contemporary global standards in munitions management and safety. Officers underwent detailed instruction on United Nations and NATO doctrines, terminologies and regulatory frameworks guiding the safe storage, handling and disposal of munitions.

Beyond classroom lectures, the programme featured structured syndicate sessions and group discussions that enabled participants to exchange perspectives on their respective national procedures and safety mechanisms. The cross-national dialogue enhanced interoperability awareness and broadened technical understanding of evolving safety architectures in the global defence environment.

Participants were also introduced to emerging technologies and modern trends shaping munitions safety systems, equipping them with forward-looking insights aligned with current international best practices.

Military authorities described the engagement as consistent with the command philosophy of the Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Sunday Kelvin Aneke, which prioritises deliberate training, international collaboration and sustained professional development as core pillars of operational effectiveness.

By investing in globally benchmarked education and nurturing strategic partnerships, the Nigerian Air Force continues to strengthen its technical proficiency, institutional safety culture and mission readiness — positioning itself as a modern air force aligned with international standards in both capability and responsibility.
