The Chief of Defence Communications, Major General EO Agbebaku, has conducted an operational assessment visit to the Headquarters Joint Task Force Operation Fansan Yamma, evaluating the effectiveness of communication systems supporting ongoing counter-terrorism and security operations.

Major General Agbebaku was received at the operational headquarters by the Theatre Commander, Major General WB Idris, alongside principal staff officers and other senior military personnel.

According to an official statement issued by the Media Information Officer of Operation Fansan Yamma, Captain David Adewusi, the visit was aimed at assessing the condition, efficiency, and operational readiness of communication infrastructure and equipment deployed across the Joint Operations Area.

The assessment focused on reviewing the communication architecture supporting the operation, identifying existing challenges, and determining measures required to strengthen command, control, and coordination capabilities in the theatre.

During the visit, the Chief of Defence Communications received detailed briefings on ongoing communication upgrades, as well as sustainment plans designed to ensure uninterrupted connectivity across operational sectors. He also inspected key communication facilities and engaged directly with signal personnel to gain first-hand insight into their operational experiences and technical needs.

Major General Agbebaku commended the troops for their professionalism, dedication, and resilience, stressing that effective and secure communication remains a vital component of successful military operations.

He urged the personnel to remain committed, innovative, and proactive in carrying out their responsibilities, while assuring them of continued institutional support in line with the strategic objectives of the Defence Headquarters.

In his remarks, the Theatre Commander, Major General Idris, expressed appreciation for the visit, describing it as timely and significant in enhancing operational communication efficiency.

He noted that the assessment and interaction would contribute to strengthening coordination, improving operational effectiveness, and supporting the overall mission objectives of Operation Fansan Yamma.

The visit featured inspection of communication installations, operational briefings, interactive sessions with personnel, the signing of the visitors’ book, and a group photograph with officers and troops.

The assessment underscores ongoing efforts by the Defence Headquarters to strengthen operational capabilities through improved communication systems, recognising their critical role in mission success and national security.
