The Ministry of Interior has commenced a two-day capacity-building programme for its agencies aimed at enhancing inter-agency collaboration and improving the efficiency and effectiveness of Nigeria’s internal security system.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, the Honourable Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, represented by his Chief of Staff, Maina Tamuna, Esq., emphasised the strategic importance of bringing together critical stakeholders to foster coordinated responses to evolving security challenges. He described the initiative as a significant step toward reinforcing institutional synergy and operational efficiency across all agencies under the Ministry.
The Minister also expressed gratitude to the Ministry’s strategic partner, Konrad Adenauer Stiftung (KAS), for its continued support, technical expertise, and commitment to strengthening democratic governance, institutional capacity, and inter-agency cooperation. He highlighted that the programme provides a platform for generating actionable solutions to protect critical infrastructure and national assets, stressing that security agencies must operate as a unified system.
Dr. Tunji-Ojo noted that the initiative aligns with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda and the Ministry’s reform priorities, which focus on professionalism, accountability, intelligence-led operations, and improved inter-agency coordination. He urged participants, particularly senior officers and decision-makers, to apply lessons from the programme to strengthen operational strategies, policies, and sustainable coordination frameworks within their organisations.
In his welcome remarks, the Special Adviser to the Minister on Training, Tunji Odewunmi, encouraged active engagement from participants, noting that the programme is the first of its kind for agencies under the Ministry. He also commended KAS for its support and urged continued collaboration to advance capacity development for Ministry personnel.
Participants include senior officers, members of the boards, and aides from the four paramilitary agencies under the Ministry. The programme is expected to foster stronger institutional cooperation, boost professionalism, and promote operational excellence, contributing to a safer, more resilient Nigeria.
