The Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC) has been named Government Agency of the Year 2025 at the 18th Leadership Annual Conference and Awards, in recognition of its expanding enforcement footprint and sustained consumer protection efforts across key sectors of the Nigerian economy.

The award was presented on Thursday, February 12, 2026, at the Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Conference Centre, Abuja, during a high-level gathering convened under the theme: “Political Stability and Sustainable Development in Africa in an Increasingly Unstable Global System: A Roadmap for Nigeria.”

According to the organisers, the honour reflects the Commission’s regulatory interventions, consumer redress mechanisms, and proactive enforcement actions aimed at strengthening market discipline and safeguarding public interest.

The citation read at the ceremony commended the FCCPC’s regulatory oversight of digital lending operations, expansion of complaint and redress channels for consumers, and the deployment of internal case-tracking systems designed to enhance transparency, efficiency, and accountability in investigations and dispute resolution.

In recent years, the Commission has intensified enforcement activities across multiple sectors, including digital lending, aviation, telecommunications, and consumer goods. Acting pursuant to its statutory mandate under the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Act 2018, the FCCPC has pursued investigations into anti-competitive practices, misleading representations, exploitative conduct, and other infractions undermining fair competition.

These interventions, the organisers noted, have led to monetary recoveries, consumer refunds, and corrective regulatory actions intended to restore confidence in Nigeria’s marketplace.

Receiving the award on behalf of the Commission, the Executive Vice Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Tunji Bello, described the recognition as a testament to the collective dedication of the Commission’s staff nationwide.

“This recognition reflects the commitment and hard work of our officers across the country who continue to uphold the mandate of the Commission with diligence and integrity,” Bello said.

He added that the award reinforces the FCCPC’s responsibility to deepen enforcement mechanisms and strengthen consumer protection frameworks in response to emerging risks, particularly in fast-evolving sectors such as digital finance and e-commerce.

“We will continue to deploy our statutory powers to promote fair competition, protect consumers, and ensure that markets operate transparently and responsibly,” he stated.

The award was presented by the Chairman of Leadership Newspapers, Mrs. Zainab Nda-Isaiah. Also present at the event were the Executive Commissioner, Operations, Mr. Louis Odion, and the Executive Commissioner, Corporate Services, alongside other senior officials and stakeholders.

The recognition comes at a time when regulatory vigilance and institutional credibility remain central to Nigeria’s broader economic stability and development agenda. For the FCCPC, the honour underscores a growing public expectation that markets must not only expand but operate within a framework of fairness, accountability, and consumer trust.
