The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) has expressed deep shock over the recent terrorist attacks on Woro and neighbouring communities in Kaiama Local Government Area of Kwara State, which claimed the lives of innocent civilians.
In an official signed statement, Director of Defence Information, Major General Samaila Uba, praised the resilience and courage of the affected communities, noting that their steadfastness against violent coercion exemplifies the enduring Nigerian spirit.
“The Armed Forces of Nigeria mourn with the families who have lost loved ones in these and other brutal attacks on defenceless citizens defending community values and freedom across the country,” Major General Uba stated.
The statement recalled that the terrorists initially entered Woro village requesting to conduct a preaching and indoctrination session, which the villagers rightly rejected. Security agencies were promptly informed, and military patrols and surveillance were deployed across the area for about two weeks. Despite these measures, the terrorists returned weeks later, killing innocent citizens in a bid to terrorize the inhabitants.
The DHQ urged all Nigerians to remain steadfast in their faith in the Constitution, uphold shared national values, and resist any form of extremist ideological indoctrination. “The unity and resilience of the Nigerian people are our greatest defence against those who seek to destroy our peace and stability,” the statement emphasized.
Reaffirming the Armed Forces’ commitment to safeguarding citizens, the DHQ called for enhanced cooperation between communities and security agencies to protect lives, freedoms, and democratic ideals. Efforts to track down and bring the perpetrators to justice, alongside all terrorist elements in the country, will continue with renewed focus and determination.
