The Honourable Minister of State for Defence, H.E. Dr. Bello Matawalle, MON, has expressed unwavering confidence in President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, declaring that the President will secure a convincing victory in the 2027 general election if given the political space to fully implement his far-reaching reform agenda.
Dr. Matawalle made this assertion while speaking at his residence in Abuja, where he also called on Nigerians and political stakeholders across party lines to unite behind the President’s ongoing efforts aimed at economic stabilisation, institutional strengthening and the promotion of national cohesion.
In an official signed statement issued by Iheoma-Hart Queeneth, Chief Information Officer for the Director of Information, the Minister strongly condemned what he described as ongoing political manoeuvres designed to undermine the Tinubu administration. He characterised such actions as self-serving, short-sighted and detrimental to Nigeria’s democratic stability, warning that premature power struggles and factionalism only distract from governance and weaken public confidence in democratic institutions.
According to Dr. Matawalle, President Tinubu has demonstrated uncommon courage by taking bold and sometimes difficult decisions to reposition the nation’s economy and strengthen critical national institutions. He maintained that these reforms, though demanding, are necessary foundations for sustainable development and long-term national prosperity.
“President Tinubu has taken bold steps to stabilise the economy and strengthen national institutions,” the Minister said. “Those who are plotting to unseat him are motivated by personal interests, not the public good. If given the chance to complete his reform programme, I am confident the President will win convincingly in 2027.”
The Defence Minister of State further highlighted what he described as visible improvements in the North and other parts of the country, attributing these developments to the President’s policies and inclusive leadership style. He stressed that the gains being recorded in security, governance and economic management must be consolidated rather than undermined by political distractions.
Dr. Matawalle urged political actors to embrace constructive engagement, issue-based politics and responsible opposition, instead of resorting to destabilising tactics that could derail national progress. He also called on Nigerians to remain patient and supportive of government policies targeted at delivering sustainable growth, improved security and stronger institutions.
“Let us focus on solutions that deliver for Nigerians jobs, security and stronger institutions rather than on rancour and short-term political gains,” he added.
He concluded by reaffirming his personal loyalty to President Tinubu and his belief in the President’s vision for a more stable, prosperous and united Nigeria, expressing optimism that the reforms currently underway will yield even greater dividends in the years ahead.
