The Armed Forces of Nigeria (AFN) and the Government of Switzerland have reaffirmed their commitment to sustaining and strengthening existing defence collaboration, with a renewed focus on non-kinetic partnerships aimed at promoting peace, stability, and long-term security.

This assurance was given when the Swiss Ambassador to Nigeria, His Excellency Patrick Felix Egloff, paid a courtesy visit to the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Olufemi Oluyede, at the Defence Headquarters in Abuja.

In an official statement signed by the Director, Defence Information, Major General Samaila Uba, Ambassador Egloff expressed Switzerland’s strong interest in deepening diplomatic and defence relations with Nigeria, particularly in areas that emphasise non-kinetic approaches to addressing security challenges.

The Ambassador noted that Switzerland is keen on supporting humanitarian engagement, peacebuilding initiatives, and other interventions that contribute to sustainable stability. He stressed that addressing the root causes of insecurity requires continuous dialogue, development-oriented support, and strong institutional partnerships.

According to him, Switzerland attaches great importance to sustained collaboration with Nigeria and sees opportunities for expanded cooperation in programmes that strengthen governance structures, build community resilience, and enhance human security.

Responding, the Chief of Defence Staff, General Oluyede, warmly welcomed the Swiss Ambassador and conveyed his appreciation for Switzerland’s enduring interest in Nigeria’s security and stability.

He acknowledged Switzerland’s contributions to non-kinetic efforts in Nigeria, noting that such support plays a vital role in complementing ongoing kinetic military operations across various theatres.

General Oluyede further expressed optimism that the existing relationship between both countries would continue to grow stronger, translating into more impactful outcomes in areas of mutual interest, particularly in peacebuilding, humanitarian support, and strategic cooperation.

He emphasised that the Armed Forces of Nigeria remains open to partnerships that enhance capacity, promote professionalism, and support comprehensive approaches to national and regional security.

The meeting highlighted the shared commitment of Nigeria and Switzerland to constructive engagement and collaborative solutions, reinforcing the importance of combining military and non-military instruments in addressing contemporary security challenges.
