Troops of 6 Brigade, Nigerian Army, under Sector 3 of Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS), have successfully rescued a kidnapped victim during sustained search and rescue operations within their Area of Responsibility, further underscoring the military’s resolve to dismantle criminal networks and protect lives.

The rescue occurred on 27 January 2026 at Dogon Gawa, Taraba State, where troops, acting on ongoing robust and aggressive search efforts, sighted a man who had been abandoned in the bush by his captors.

The victim was later identified as Mr Ghali.

Preliminary investigations revealed that Mr Ghali and another individual, Mr Simon Oluchukwu, were abducted on 11 January 2026 at Gbise Village, Mbayonga, in Benue State.

During the attack, the victims’ driver was reportedly killed by the kidnappers.

Following his rescue, Mr Ghali was immediately debriefed by troops, provided with necessary medical attention and subsequently reunited with his family.

Commenting on the successful operation, the Commander, 6 Brigade Nigerian Army and Sector 3 OPWS, Brigadier General Kingsley Chidiebere Uwa, commended the troops for their courage, tenacity and professionalism in the face of danger.

He assured that operations across the Brigade’s Area of Responsibility would be further intensified to ensure the rescue of the remaining victim and the arrest of all those responsible for the crime.

Brigadier General Uwa also called on members of the public to continue to support ongoing military operations by providing timely and credible information to security agencies.

The latest success, he said, reflects the gallantry, professionalism and unwavering commitment of troops of 6 Brigade Nigerian Army to the protection of lives and property.

The Brigade reaffirmed its determination to sustain pressure on criminal elements, rid the area of kidnappers and restore lasting peace and security within the region.
