The Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, has called on members of the 38 Regular Course Association of the Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA) to uphold unity, inclusiveness, and national service as they continue to contribute to the country’s development. The charge was delivered on Thursday, 22 January 2026, during a courtesy visit by the Association’s Executive Committee, led by Rear Admiral Samuel Agada (rtd), to the Army Headquarters in Abuja, an engagement disclosed in an official statement by the Acting Director, Army Public Relations, Colonel Appolonia Anele.
Lieutenant General Shaibu congratulated the newly elected executives of the Association and emphasised the critical role of cohesion and inclusiveness in advancing its objectives. He highlighted ongoing initiatives by the Nigerian Army to strengthen operational effectiveness, deepen professionalism, and enhance troop welfare. The COAS also disclosed plans to expand the Army’s strength and establish additional depots to more effectively address security challenges across the nation.
“Members of the 38 Regular Course should serve as ambassadors of the Nigerian Army,” the COAS said. “Leverage your experience and influence to collaborate with ministries and other stakeholders in tackling national challenges. Let unity and inclusiveness guide your engagements, and ensure that your contributions advance the development and stability of our nation.”
Lieutenant General Shaibu also paid tribute to deceased members of the Association, describing them as officers of exceptional character whose service and sacrifices had significantly contributed to national unity and stability.
In response, the President of the Association, Rear Admiral Samuel Agada (rtd), expressed appreciation for the continued support of the Nigerian Army. He highlighted challenges facing members, particularly in healthcare, and appealed for assistance in strengthening the Association’s financial base. He further encouraged serving and retired personnel of the Armed Forces to prepare early for retirement by building solid financial foundations.
The meeting underscored the partnership between serving officers and retired personnel in promoting professionalism, unity, and service to the nation, reaffirming the 38 Regular Course Association’s commitment to fostering cohesion and contributing to Nigeria’s security and development agenda.
