The Kaduna State Security Council has firmly dismissed media reports alleging the abduction of over 200 worshippers from a church in Kurmin Wali Community, Kajuru Local Government Area, describing the claims as false and unfounded.
The clarification followed an emergency meeting of the Security Council held on Monday, January 19, 2026, at the Sir Kashim Ibrahim House, Kaduna. The meeting was chaired by the Governor of Kaduna State, His Excellency Senator Uba Sani, and was convened in response to widespread public concern generated by the reports.
In attendance were the Deputy Governor, the Chief of Staff to the Governor, the Honourable Commissioners for Internal Security, Local Government Affairs, and Justice/Attorney General, as well as about 12 Local Government Chairmen and heads of key security agencies in the state.
During deliberations, security briefings presented to the Council confirmed that no abduction incident occurred in Kurmin Wali Community. It was disclosed that troops led by the Commander, Sub-Sector 5, Captain (NN) M. Adamu, alongside operatives of the Nigeria Police Force, the Department of State Services and the Chairman of Kajuru Local Government Area, had already carried out an on-the-ground assessment in the community.
The assessment, according to the Council, found no evidence to support claims of a mass abduction, with normal activities ongoing in the area at the time of the security visit.
At the conclusion of the meeting, the Governor, the Commissioner for Internal Security, the Commissioner of Police and the Chairman of Kajuru Local Government Area jointly debunked the allegation, urging the public to disregard the report and remain calm.
They also cautioned against the spread of unverified information capable of inciting panic and undermining public confidence, while reiterating the state government’s commitment to maintaining peace and security across Kaduna State through proactive coordination among security agencies.
The emergency meeting, which underscored the importance of timely intelligence, inter-agency collaboration and responsible reporting, ended at about 5:30 p.m. on Monday, January 19, 2026.
