By Nkechi Eze

The Nigerian Armed Forces Resettlement Centre (NAFRC) has entered a new phase of leadership with the assumption of office of Air Vice Marshal Nnaemeka Ignatius Ilo as Commandant, following the recent strategic redeployment of senior officers by the Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Sunday Kelvin Aneke.

The redeployment, carried out in line with the vision of the President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, is aimed at strengthening leadership effectiveness across the Armed Forces, enhancing institutional capacity, and advancing professionalism and operational preparedness in support of national security and development objectives.

Shortly after assuming office, Air Vice Marshal Ilo embarked on a comprehensive familiarisation tour of the Centre, during which he inspected key facilities, interacted with personnel and staff, and gained firsthand insight into ongoing resettlement and vocational training programmes. The tour enabled the new Commandant to assess the current state of infrastructure and training activities, while identifying both immediate needs and long-term interventions required to further strengthen the Centre’s mandate.

NAFRC plays a critical role in equipping retiring and retired Armed Forces personnel with relevant vocational and entrepreneurial skills to ensure a smooth, dignified, and productive transition into civilian life. Air Vice Marshal Ilo noted that sustaining and expanding this mandate remains central to national human capital development and long-term security.

Reaffirming his leadership priorities, the new Commandant pledged to reposition the Centre in line with the broader presidential directive on human capital development. He assured that his administration would focus on providing a more conducive learning environment for course participants, while also improving the welfare and working conditions of personnel and instructors.

According to him, effective leadership, sustained investment in training infrastructure, and the well-being of both staff and trainees are indispensable to building capacity, fostering self-reliance among retirees, and contributing meaningfully to national development.

The assumption of office by Air Vice Marshal Ilo is expected to further consolidate NAFRC’s role as a cornerstone institution in the Armed Forces’ post-service resettlement framework, while reinforcing the commitment of the Nigerian Air Force and the Armed Forces of Nigeria to personnel welfare beyond active service.
