Hon. Abike Dabiri-Erewa, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM), has expressed deep condolences to world heavyweight boxing champion, Anthony Joshua, following a fatal road accident involving him, his friends and aides along the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway on Monday.
In an official statement signed by the Director of Media and Public Relations of NiDCOM, Abdur-Rahman Balogun, Dabiri-Erewa described the incident as a tragic and painful loss, noting that two members of Joshua’s entourage lost their lives in the accident. The crash, which occurred on the busy highway, also left the boxing champion with injuries, for which he is currently receiving medical attention.
According to the statement, Dabiri-Erewa, in her condolence message, mourned the deceased members of Joshua’s entourage and extended her sympathies to their families, as well as to the boxing icon over the unfortunate incident. She described the development as heartbreaking, emphasizing that the loss of lives in such circumstances is always devastating.
“I hereby wish you quick recovery from your injuries and pray unto God to accept the souls of the deceased and give you and their families the fortitude to bear the loss,” Dabiri-Erewa said.
Meanwhile, a joint statement by the Governors of Lagos and Ogun States, Babajide Sanwo-Olu and Dapo Abiodun, respectively, disclosed that both state governments are closely monitoring the situation. The governors assured that all necessary steps are being taken to ensure that Anthony Joshua and his driver receive the best possible medical care.
The incident has continued to attract widespread concern and sympathy, with many Nigerians and fans across the world expressing support for Joshua and the families of those who lost their lives in the tragic accident.
