The National Identity Management Commission, NIMC, has introduced a Pre-Enrolment Portal aimed at significantly improving efficiency and user experience in the National Identification Number, NIN, registration process.

The development was disclosed in an official statement signed by the Head of Corporate Communications of the Commission, Mr. Kayode Adegoke, who explained that the digital platform allows prospective applicants, both within Nigeria and in the diaspora, to capture and submit their biodata online ahead of physical visits to enrolment centres for biometric capture.

According to NIMC, the initiative forms part of a broader strategy to decongest enrolment centres nationwide, reduce waiting time for applicants, and improve the overall quality and accuracy of data captured in the NIN database.

The Commission said the introduction of the Pre-Enrolment Portal reflects the unwavering commitment of the Director General and Chief Executive Officer of NIMC, Engr. (Dr.) Abisoye Coker-Odusote, to strengthening institutional performance through technology-driven solutions. It added that the initiative aligns with the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, which places priority on efficient public service delivery, digital transformation and inclusive national development.

NIMC explained that by enabling applicants to complete their biodata submission online before visiting enrolment centres, the portal simplifies the enrolment process, improves data accuracy since applicants input their information directly, and allows for better appointment scheduling to minimise crowding at centres. The platform also supports the secure and confidential handling of personal information, provides for seamless online upload of required supporting documents, and enhances operational efficiency across the enrolment system.

The Commission encouraged all prospective NIN applicants to take advantage of the Pre-Enrolment Portal to enjoy a faster, smoother and more convenient registration experience. It noted that the initiative further underscores NIMC’s commitment to building and sustaining a reliable and inclusive digital identity ecosystem that supports national planning, service delivery and socio-economic development.

Applicants were advised to access the Pre-Enrolment Portal via the official NIMC platform to commence the process ahead of biometric enrolment at designated centres.
