The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has dismissed as false and misleading a media report alleging that its operatives invaded or attacked the Abuja office of Amnesty International, describing the claim as mischievous and capable of inciting public tension.
In an official statement signed by the Commission’s Spokesperson, J. Okor Odey, ICPC clarified that its officers never visited Amnesty International’s office on Thursday, 11 December 2025, contrary to the publication circulated by a section of the media. According to the Commission, its operatives were instead at the IHS Regional Office located at No. 6, Dar es Salaam Street, Wuse II, Abuja, on a lawful assignment when the purported “face-off” occurred.
The statement explained that ICPC officers had earlier visited the IHS facility to deliver an official correspondence but were obstructed by the company’s Chief Security Officer and other security personnel, who prevented them from carrying out their lawful duties. The operatives were subsequently forced out of the building, prompting the Commission to secure a search warrant in line with legal requirements.
ICPC described itself as a responsible and law-abiding institution, stressing that it expects full cooperation from individuals and corporate bodies during the execution of its statutory responsibilities. The Commission warned that it will not tolerate any obstruction of its officers while performing official duties.
For clarity, ICPC revealed that the Director of Regulatory Affairs at IHS Regional Office, Mr. Saidu Abdullahi, has since tendered a written apology on behalf of the company and its management. In the apology, Abdullahi described the incident as unfortunate and regrettable, assuring that the conduct of the CSO and security personnel involved would be addressed to prevent a recurrence.
The Commission urged the public to disregard the misleading publication in its entirety, noting that it does not reflect the facts of the incident. ICPC reaffirmed its commitment to upholding professionalism, integrity and the rule of law in the discharge of its mandate.
