The Nasarawa State Police Command has announced the assumption of duty by CP Umar Ahmed Chuso, mnips, fwc, psc (+), as the 30th Commissioner of Police in the State. He takes over from CP Shetima Jauro Mohammed, psc, mnips, who has been redeployed by the Inspector-General of Police to the Police Staff College, Jos, as Deputy Commandant.

In a statement signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Ramhan Nansel, the Command stated that CP Chuso arrives with extensive operational experience, strong administrative capacity, and a distinguished record of professional excellence. The new Commissioner appealed to residents and stakeholders for their continued cooperation and support to collectively confront and eliminate all forms of criminality across the State.

CP Umar Ahmed Chuso, who hails from Sokoto South Local Government Area of Sokoto State, holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Agricultural Economics from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria. He joined the Nigeria Police Force on June 10, 1994, as a Cadet Assistant Superintendent of Police and underwent his foundational training at the Police Academy, Wudil, Kano State.

Before his current posting, he served as Deputy Commandant of the Police Staff College, Jos, from July to December 2025. He previously held the position of Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Operations in Kano State between 2023 and 2025, after serving as Deputy Commissioner of Police, Criminal Investigation Department, Kano, in 2023. Earlier in his career, he served as Assistant Commissioner of Police in charge of Operations in Delta State from 2019 to 2022, and before that, he was the pioneer Area Commander of Argungu in Kebbi State between 2017 and 2018.

CP Chuso has also held several other important command and administrative positions, including CSP Administration in Kebbi State, Directing Staff at the Police College, Kaduna, and Divisional Police Officer in Illela, Yauri, Argungu, Bagudo, Unguwar Rimi, Sokoto Central Division, Gwiwa, and Augie. In addition, he served with the Force CID Interpol section in Abuja, worked as Officer in Charge of Pay, and also served as Divisional Crime Officer in Argungu.

He has attended several professional courses both within and outside Nigeria, including the Citizenship and Leadership Course, Tactical Leadership and Combat Course, Protection of Human Rights Course at Texas Southern University in Houston, USA, Higher Military Strategy Course at the Army War College in Abuja, and the Advanced Detective Course. He is also a member of the Nigerian Institute of Police Studies.

Beyond his professional engagements, CP Chuso enjoys reading and playing badminton. He is married and blessed with children.

Upon assuming duty, the new Commissioner of Police called on traditional rulers, community leaders, youth organisations, religious institutions, and residents of Nasarawa State to strengthen collaboration with the Police by providing timely and credible information that would support crime prevention and improve rapid response. He assured the public of renewed commitment to the protection of lives and property, pledging to sustain peace, harmony and security across the State.
