The Defence Headquarters has assured anxious parents and community members that the safe recovery of pupils abducted from St. Mary’s Catholic School in Agwara, Niger State remains a top national security priority, as the military intensifies coordinated rescue efforts across the region.
In an official statement, the Director of Defence Media Operations, Major General Michael E. Onoja, acknowledged the growing concerns among families but stressed that the armed forces are fully committed to bringing the children home safely.
According to him, the military is “making concerted and sustained efforts to ensure the safety and quick reunion of the abducted pupils with their families,” reaffirming that the operation is receiving the highest level of attention within the defence establishment.
Major General Onoja urged the public and media organisations to refrain from circulating unverified information, warning that misinformation could jeopardise ongoing rescue operations. He encouraged parents, community stakeholders and residents of surrounding areas to promptly share credible intelligence with security agencies to support the mission.
While appreciating the emotional burden borne by the affected families, the Defence Headquarters emphasised that recovering every child remains an unwavering commitment. “This undoubtedly remains a top priority, and efforts will continue until every child is returned to their family,” the statement assured.
