The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has disowned a correspondence circulating on various platforms alleging that the Commission approved resolutions of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) National Working Committee (NWC) and postponed the Ekiti State Congress and governorship primary. INEC described the document, dated November 10, 2025, as fake and forged.
In an official signed statement, the Director of Voter Education and Publicity, Mrs. Victoria Eta-Messi, said the purported letter “did not emanate from the office of the Secretary to the Commission, nor any official channel of INEC.” She explained that preliminary investigations revealed that the signature of the Secretary to the Commission was forged by what she termed “unscrupulous elements” seeking to mislead the public.
INEC urged political parties, the media, and the general public to disregard the document in its entirety, stressing that it has no connection to the Commission’s activities or official communication. According to the statement, the circulation of forged documents constitutes a serious electoral offence and represents a deliberate attempt to sow confusion within the political space.
The Commission condemned the act, warning individuals involved in the creation and distribution of such false statements to desist immediately “in the interest of electoral integrity and peace.” It further disclosed that it is working closely with security agencies to investigate the forgery and ensure that those responsible are identified, apprehended, and prosecuted according to the law.
INEC reassured Nigerians of its commitment to transparency and credible electoral processes, emphasising that all official information from the Commission will continue to be issued through authentic and verifiable channels.
