The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, Nigerian Army Medal, has called for renewed collective efforts among senior officers and veterans toward strengthening national security and fostering unity within the Nigerian Armed Forces.
He made the call on Wednesday, 12 November 2025, when he hosted members of the 41 Regular Combatant Course Alumni Association of the Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA) at the Army Headquarters, Abuja, in what became an emotional reunion of long-time comrades bonded by service, discipline, and shared sacrifice.
In an official statement signed by the Acting Deputy Director, Army Public Relations, Lieutenant Colonel Appolonia Anele, it was disclosed that the Army Chief expressed deep appreciation to his course mates for their visit, describing them as “an integral part of his life and professional journey.”
He noted that the brotherhood and esprit de corps forged at the NDA decades ago remain a powerful foundation for their continued contributions to the Nigerian Army and the nation at large. Lt Gen Shaibu pledged to sustain close collaboration with his colleagues, both serving and retired, to advance the Army’s operational effectiveness and national stability.
According to him, since his appointment, many of his coursemates have remained actively engaged in offering counsel and sharing valuable perspectives on achieving a safer and more secure Nigeria. “I see you all as my eyes and ears,” he said. “Your continued support, wisdom, and field experience are invaluable to our mission. Together, we can make Nigeria safer, stronger, and more united.”
Earlier in his remarks, the President of the 41 Regular Combatant Course Alumni Association, Major Lancelot Anyanya (Rtd), who led the delegation, congratulated Lt Gen Shaibu on his appointment as the 25th Chief of Army Staff.
Major Anyanya described the appointment as a moment of collective pride and fulfilment for members of the 41 Regular Combatant Course—the first Post-Jubilee Generation Officers of the NDA—who have consistently distinguished themselves in military service across various commands and formations.
He lauded the COAS for his exceptional leadership and professionalism, recalling their formative years at the Academy, where Lt Gen Shaibu served with distinction as the Academy Cadet Adjutant. “Your elevation has brought immense joy and pride to us all,” Anyanya said. “You have always embodied discipline, integrity, and excellence, and we are confident that you will continue to lead with the same vision and dedication that define your character.”
He also commended the Army Chief’s unwavering commitment to the vision of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, as Commander-in-Chief, noting that the Nigerian Army under his leadership has continued to demonstrate courage, professionalism, and renewed purpose.
The delegation further extended warm congratulations to Mrs. Safiyyah Hassan Shaibu, National President of the Nigerian Army Officers’ Wives Association (NAOWA), for her steadfast support to her husband and her exemplary role in empowering Army families and communities.
The visit was marked by an atmosphere of camaraderie and nostalgia, reflecting the enduring bond of the 41 Regular Combatant Course—a cohort that continues to make impactful contributions to national defence, leadership, and public service.
