The Senate has confirmed the appointment of Idris Ibikunle Olorunnimbe as Chairman of the Board of the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), following a successful screening exercise conducted by its Committee on Communications.

The confirmation, which took place during Tuesday’s plenary session, came after the Senate adopted the Committee’s report, which recommended the nominees for approval.

According to an official statement signed by the Head of Public Affairs at NCC, Mrs. Nnenna Ukoha, the Senate also confirmed the appointments of Maryam Bayi representing the North East, Senator Ramoni Olalekan Mustafa representing the South West, and Ikechukwu Ugwuegede representing the South East as Commissioners on the NCC Board.

Other confirmed members include Princess Oforitsenere Emiko and Christopher Sandy Okorie, both representing the South South geopolitical zone.

With the confirmation, the new Chairman and Commissioners will join the Executive Vice Chairman of the Commission, Dr. Aminu Maida (North West), the Executive Commissioner for Technical Services, Engineer Abraham Oshadami (North Central), and the Executive Commissioner for Stakeholder Management, Rimini H. Makama (North Central), who had been previously confirmed, to constitute the full Board of the Nigerian Communications Commission.

The confirmation of the new Board members is expected to further strengthen the Commission’s leadership structure and enhance its regulatory efficiency in driving innovation, expanding broadband penetration, and ensuring effective governance within Nigeria’s telecommunications sector.
