The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced significant progress in the ongoing process of registering new political parties in Nigeria, disclosing that eight out of fourteen pre-qualified associations have successfully completed the upload of all required information and documentation on the Commission’s dedicated portal.

This was contained in a statement issued on Thursday, October 30, 2025, by the National Commissioner and Chairman, Information and Voter Education Committee, Sam Olumekun, following a regular meeting of the Commission held in Abuja.

According to Olumekun, the update follows the Commission’s earlier announcement of Thursday, September 11, 2025, which outlined the procedures for registration and engagement with interested political associations. He explained that after a briefing session with the fourteen pre-qualified associations on Tuesday, September 17, 2025, INEC opened its online portal for the submission of documentation from Wednesday, September 18 to Friday, October 18, 2025, at midnight.

“As of Saturday, 19th October 2025, eight (8) out of the fourteen (14) pre-qualified associations successfully completed the upload of all necessary information and documentation,” Olumekun stated.

The eight associations that met the submission deadline include the All Democratic Alliance (ADA), Citizens Democratic Alliance (CDA), Abundance Social Party (ASP), African Alliance Party (AAP), Democratic Leadership Alliance (DLA), Green Future Party (GFP), National Democratic Party (NDP), and the Peoples Freedom Party (PFP).

Olumekun further disclosed that the next phase of the registration process will involve a detailed assessment and verification of the information and documents submitted by each association. This stage, he said, is designed to ensure that all submissions conform to the provisions of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended), the Electoral Act 2022, and the Commission’s Regulations and Guidelines for Political Parties (2022).

Reaffirming the Commission’s stance on due process and fairness, INEC emphasized its unwavering commitment to inclusivity, transparency, and the deepening of Nigeria’s democratic culture through credible and open processes.

“The Commission wishes to reaffirm its commitment to inclusivity, transparency, and the deepening of Nigeria’s democratic culture,” the statement concluded.
