The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has announced plans to celebrate 70 years of women in policing, marking seven decades of courage, resilience, and dedicated service since the enlistment of the first set of female officers in 1955. The milestone celebration, scheduled to hold from the 3rd to 4th of December 2025, will spotlight the vital role of women in enhancing law enforcement and strengthening community trust across the nation.

In an official statement issued by the Force Public Relations Officer, Force Headquarters, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun, will lead serving and retired female officers in commemorating the historic occasion.

The IGP commended the invaluable contributions of women officers to the operational effectiveness and public image of the Force, noting that their dedication, professionalism, and compassion have been central to the evolution of modern policing in Nigeria.

“Over the past seven decades, women of the Nigeria Police Force have distinguished themselves across diverse spheres, from administration and investigations to tactical operations and command leadership,” the statement read. “They have embodied integrity, empathy, and excellence in service to the nation, redefining policing with compassion and purpose.”

According to the release, activities planned to mark the anniversary include a national lecture, historical exhibition, interactive panel sessions, and an outreach programme, all designed to celebrate the achievements of women in policing while highlighting their continuing role in national security and social development.

The anniversary, the statement added, reflects the IGP’s commitment to inclusivity, professionalism, and continuous capacity development within the Force, particularly as it relates to empowering women to contribute more meaningfully to security operations and institutional reform.

The Nigeria Police Force extended heartfelt appreciation to all female officers, both serving and retired, who have served in its ranks over the decades. Their courage, sacrifice, and professionalism, it said, remain a source of pride and inspiration to the institution and the nation as a whole.

As the Force celebrates this significant milestone, it reaffirms its resolve to continue promoting gender equity, professional excellence, and leadership opportunities for women in the police service, in line with global best practices in law enforcement.
