The Nigerian Army has announced the death of one of its officers, Lieutenant S. Haruna, who passed away on October 6, 2025, following injuries sustained in a domestic fire incident involving him and his wife on September 22, 2025.

In an official statement signed by the Assistant Director, Army Public Relations, Headquarters 2 Brigade, Akwa Ibom State, Captain Lawal Bala Muhammad, the Army disclosed that the officer was immediately evacuated to the University of Uyo Teaching Hospital (UUTH) after the incident, where he received comprehensive medical care. Despite the best efforts of the medical team to stabilize his condition, the officer sadly succumbed to his injuries while receiving treatment.

“The Nigerian Army commiserates deeply with the family, colleagues, and friends of the deceased officer and prays for the repose of his soul,” the statement read.

Captain Muhammad further revealed that the Nigerian Army had instituted an investigation immediately after the incident to determine the circumstances surrounding the unfortunate occurrence before the officer’s demise. He added that the outcome of the investigation would be made public upon completion.

While expressing gratitude to members of the public for their support and understanding, the Nigerian Army reaffirmed its commitment to professionalism, discipline, and accountability in the conduct of its personnel, assuring that due process would be followed in handling the matter.
