The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) on Monday, October 6, 2025, recorded yet another milestone in its transformation journey with the commissioning of the newly constructed Headquarters NAF Annex Complex in Gudu, Abuja. The state-of-the-art facility, designed to decongest the overstretched NAF Headquarters in Garki, was described as a bold and strategic step towards strengthening institutional capacity, enhancing productivity, and improving personnel welfare.

According to an official statement by the Director of Public Relations and Information, Air Commodore Ehimen Ejodame, the event was a moment of pride for the Service as it demonstrated the NAF’s enduring commitment to administrative efficiency, innovation, and operational readiness.

Speaking at the commissioning ceremony, the Special Guest of Honour and Honourable Minister of Defence, Dr Mohammed Badaru Abubakar, mni, commended the foresight and vision of the NAF leadership, describing the project as a symbol of resilience, professionalism, and institutional growth. He noted that since its establishment in 1964, the Nigerian Air Force has expanded tremendously in both scope and responsibility, thereby necessitating the creation of new administrative and operational structures to support its evolving mandate.

Dr Badaru highlighted that the relocation of key branches such as the Air Secretary, Standards and Evaluation, Transformation and Innovation, as well as the 051 Personnel Management Group and an Annex of the Chief of the Air Staff’s Office, would significantly ease congestion at the Headquarters while providing a firmer foundation for the Air Force’s future growth. “This Annex is a reflection of the Air Force’s habit of excellence and foresight,” he remarked, praising the Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Hasan Bala Abubakar, for ensuring that the project aligns perfectly with his Command Philosophy of maintaining a highly motivated force through welfare and infrastructural renewal.

In his own remarks, the Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Hasan Bala Abubakar, explained that the Gudu Annex was deliberately acquired and remodelled to foster a conducive work environment and improve coordination across critical administrative functions. He stressed that the project underscores the NAF’s unwavering commitment to excellence, efficiency, and personnel welfare, noting that motivation flourishes where infrastructure supports productivity. “The commissioning of the Headquarters NAF Annex stands as a testament to our dynamism, resilience, and forward-looking posture,” he said.

Both the Minister of Defence and the Chief of the Air Staff expressed deep appreciation to the President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, His Excellency President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, whose steadfast support, strategic guidance, and investment in defence sector reforms made the project possible. The Minister thereafter performed the formal commissioning of the Headquarters NAF Annex Complex, Gudu, dedicating it to the glory of God and the service of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

Earlier in his welcome address, the Chief of Administration, Air Vice Marshal Idi Sani, described the commissioning of the Headquarters Nigerian Air Force Annex Complex as more than just the unveiling of a new structure. He noted that the event represents a defining milestone in the Service’s continuing transformation and dynamic institutional growth, reflecting its progressive march towards a more efficient and professional force.

The ceremony was graced by several dignitaries, including the Acting Chairman, Senate Committee on Air Force, Senator Augustine Akobundu; Chairman, House Committee on Air Force, Honourable Kabiru Al-Hassan Rurum; the Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa; Service Chiefs; and other senior officers of the Armed Forces of Nigeria.

The commissioning of the Gudu Annex stands as a testament to the NAF’s vision for excellence, innovation, and enhanced service delivery—anchored on the enduring commitment of its leadership to the welfare, efficiency, and operational effectiveness of the Force in safeguarding Nigeria’s territorial integrity.
