The Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM) has congratulated Dr. Ayodeji Amobonye Emmanuel, a distinguished Nigerian scientist, on his recognition among the top two per cent of scientists in the world, in a global ranking published by Stanford University in collaboration with Elsevier.
In a statement signed by the Commission’s spokesperson, Abdur-Rahman Balogun, the Chairman/CEO of NiDCOM, Hon. Abike Dabiri-Erewa, hailed Amobonye’s achievement, describing it as a testament to his dedication, brilliance and immense contributions to global scientific research.
She commended him for blazing the trail in the field of Biotechnology and urged him to continue advancing innovation and discovery. “Dr. Amobonye’s inclusion is a reflection of his commitment, academic excellence, and contribution to global knowledge production, especially in a field as critical as Biotechnology,” Dabiri-Erewa said.
Dr. Amobonye, who obtained his Ph.D. at the Durban University of Technology, South Africa, where he also served as a lecturer and researcher, is currently a Research Fellow at the Kaunas University of Technology, Lithuania. He was recognized for his outstanding publications and impact in the global scientific community, with the Stanford-Elsevier ranking identifying researchers whose work has had the highest influence across 22 scientific fields and 174 subfields.
The Nigerian-born scientist holds a first degree from the Federal University of Technology, Minna, and a Master’s degree from the Federal University of Technology, Akure. He also previously served with the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC).
Celebrating his recognition, NiDCOM noted that Amobonye’s achievement not only elevates Nigeria’s image in the diaspora but also serves as an inspiration to young scientists at home. “Dr. Amobonye stands as a beacon of excellence and a worthy ambassador of Nigeria in the global scientific community,” the statement added.
