The Nasarawa State Police Command has arrested two suspected kidnappers believed to have been terrorizing residents of Doma and Lafia Local Government Areas, following months of extortion and threats against members of the public.

In a statement signed and made available to journalists in Lafia on Sunday, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of the Nasarawa State Command, SP Ramhan Nansel, disclosed that the breakthrough came on 28th September, 2025, at about 2:00 p.m. when operatives of Doma Division, acting on credible intelligence, swooped in on the suspects.

He explained that the arrest followed a formal complaint lodged by some residents of Saman Laraba in Doma, who, alongside others from Lafia, had reported that unknown persons had been threatening them through persistent phone calls for over two months. The suspects, according to the report, demanded a ransom of ₦3,000,000 from the victims, warning them that they would be kidnapped if the demand was not met.

Further investigation by the police revealed that the suspects had adopted a pattern of contacting several residents of Doma and Lafia, issuing similar threats and forcing some victims to pay ransom out of fear for their lives.

Those arrested were identified as Abubakar Abdullahi, a 28-year-old man from Jalti Village, Dass Local Government Area of Bauchi State, and Abdullahi Isah, a 32-year-old resident of Tudun Alaramma, Doma Local Government Area of Nasarawa State.

SP Nansel revealed that during interrogation, the suspects admitted to their crimes and confessed that they had successfully extorted between ₦6 million and ₦7 million from different individuals across the two local government areas.

The Commissioner of Police in the state, CP Shetima Jauro Mohammed, has ordered that the suspects be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Lafia, for further discreet investigation to unravel possible accomplices and wider networks connected to the crime.

While commending the efforts of his men in curbing the menace, CP Mohammed reassured the public of the command’s unwavering commitment to fighting crime and ensuring the safety of lives and property. He urged residents to continue cooperating with the police by providing timely and useful information that would help in tackling criminality.

In his words: “We will not relent in our determination to make Nasarawa State unsafe for criminals. I commend the residents for their vigilance and encourage them to keep providing credible information to the police. Together, we will ensure a safer society.”
