The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has intensified its enforcement drive against reckless motorists in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), arresting 254 offenders, including a military impersonator, and securing 245 convictions during a series of Mobile Court sittings held between 8th and 12th September 2025.
The special operation, codenamed Operation Restore Sanity IV, was carried out in collaboration with the Nigerian Correctional Service and the Nigerian Army Brigade of Guards, with sittings convened at the Nyanya Unit Command and Karu Unit Command. It was specifically designed to tackle the surge of traffic indiscipline along the busy Abuja–Nyanya corridor, a hotspot notorious for route violations, overloading, and reckless driving.
According to a statement signed by the Corps Public Education Officer, Assistant Corps Marshal Olusegun Ogungbemide, the Mobile Court exercise prosecuted 254 offenders who collectively committed 563 traffic-related offences. Out of these, 245 offenders were convicted, while nine were discharged after due consideration by the court.
The offences spanned a wide range, with 129 cases of seatbelt violations topping the list, followed by 122 driver’s licence violations, 111 cases of overloading, and 63 cases of route violations. Other offences booked included dangerous driving, traffic light violations, number plate infractions, wrongful overtaking, use of phones while driving, caution sign violations, and impersonation.
A particularly striking case was that of Hussaini Kabir, who not only committed multiple traffic offences but was also caught impersonating the military. Kabir was sentenced to five days of community service to be served at Mambilla Barracks.
The Mobile Court also handed down punishments to six other notorious offenders identified as Shaab Murtala, Abel Sunday, Sunday Salasi, Benjamin Augustine, Ekem Charles, and Samsudeen Abdullahi. They were convicted for various offences, including dangerous driving, overloading, driver’s licence violation, use of phone while driving, and route violation. Their sentences ranged from three hours to five days of community service.
The sittings were presided over by His Worship Maryam Muazu Alhaji and His Worship Huzaifa Maccido, with the FRSC FCT Sector Legal Officer, CRC Cindy Talabi, serving as the prosecuting counsel.
Speaking on the outcome of the operation, the Corps Marshal, Shehu Mohammed, commended the FCT Command for sustaining interventions aimed at deterring violators and restoring discipline on the roads. He emphasized that the Mobile Court sittings were held at his instance as part of a deliberate national strategy to clamp down on traffic indiscipline.
The Corps Marshal further disclosed that similar exercises will be replicated across all states of the Federation in order to strengthen enforcement, deter habitual violators, and ensure safer roads nationwide. He warned motorists to desist from reckless behaviors such as dangerous driving, route violations, and overloading, stressing that the FRSC remains fully committed to prosecuting offenders in order to safeguard lives and restore sanity on Nigeria’s roads.
