The Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, Ph.D., NPM, has applauded the Defence and Police Officers’ Wives Association (DEPOWA) for introducing a landmark initiative aimed at providing full scholarships to children of fallen heroes. The commendation came during a courtesy visit by the association’s leadership to the Force Headquarters, Abuja.
In an official statement signed by the Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, the IGP described the initiative as a laudable step that honours the sacrifices of gallant officers while also advancing national cohesion.
Leading the DEPOWA delegation was its President, Mrs. Oghogho Musa, who explained that the scholarship scheme would be formally launched with the commissioning of the DEPOWA Future Leaders Academy in September 2026. According to her, the academy will not only serve children of fallen heroes but also admit children from surrounding communities, thereby strengthening unity and mutual understanding.
Mrs. Musa expressed gratitude to the Inspector-General of Police for the unwavering sacrifices of officers and men of the Force in combating violent crimes and in contributing to international peacekeeping operations. She reaffirmed DEPOWA’s commitment to supporting officers and their families, while reiterating the association’s resolve to continue championing initiatives that preserve the legacy of fallen heroes.
Responding, IGP Egbetokun restated the Nigeria Police Force’s determination to protect lives and property, maintain public order, and safeguard the nation’s democracy. He noted that the NPF draws encouragement and strength from the support of stakeholders such as DEPOWA and pledged sustained collaboration with the association in areas that uplift police families and enhance morale within the Force.
